The Most Anticipated Movies of 2025
2025 is packed with exciting releases, but a few movies and shows are already in the news. One of the most talked-about titles is I Know What You Did Last Summer, the fourth entry in the iconic thriller series. This time, a new group of friends hide a terrible secret after a tragic accident - until someone starts looking for them. Madeline Cline leads the cast, but the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. adds serious nostalgia and suspense.
James Gunn's Superman is also at the top of every moviegoer's list. As the first major film in the new DC Universe reboot, it sets the tone for what's to come. While the story has been kept under wraps, fans are excited to see Superman fly again - this time with his super-powered pup Krypto. With a star-studded cast and a fresh take, the film is set to become one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
Gerard Butler brings a high-profile action film to The Plane, which is now climbing the Netflix charts after a strong performance at the box office. The story follows a heroic pilot and a criminal who join forces to survive after crash-landing in enemy territory. The film is fast-paced, gritty, and fans are calling it a must-see. Butler's comeback continues, especially with talk of his return in the live-action 'How to Train Your Dragon' film.
Meanwhile, The Waterfront and K-pop Demon Hunters offer something completely different. Waterfront delves into family drama, loyalty, and survival, all set in a small seaside town. Think Yellowstone meets Bloodline. And if you're into animated action with a twist, K-pop Demon Hunters mixes idol culture, demon-slaying, and explosive music. It's a wild ride that fans around the world are loving, with bold visuals and an even bolder heart.
Plane
Gerard Butler is known for action films like 300, Olympus Has Fallen, and Den of Thieves. Now, a new film of his is garnering a lot of attention online. In the 2023 action film Planes, Butler joins Luke Cage star Mike Colter. The story follows Brody Torrance (Butler), a pilot who reaches a dangerous location after his plane crashes during a storm. He teams up with prisoner Louis Gaspar (Colter) on a flight to escape. Planes just hit Netflix and is already a huge hit. It is at number three on the list of top movies and could go even higher. The film also performed well in theaters, grossing $74 million on a budget of $25 million. That’s almost three times what it cost to make. It also received strong reviews — 79% from critics and 94% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s now both “Certified Fresh” and “Verified Hot.”
Speaking to WGN News in 2023, Butler said The Plane gives people a “fun break” from movies that are hard to understand. It’s common for Butler’s films to do well on streaming, but The Plane could do even better thanks to the new “How to Train Your Dragon” live-action film. Butler returns as Stoick the Viking, which fans love. The film has a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. After seeing it, fans are eager to see more of Butler’s work. With Netflix being the biggest platform, The Plane is an easy choice.
The Waterfront
The Waterfront is a new family drama now streaming on Netflix. The show takes place in a small seaside town in North Carolina. It follows the Buckley family as they try to save their family’s fishing business. The story mixes family feuds, crime, and the pressures of running a business that means everything to them.
Kevin Williamson, who created Scream and Dawson’s Creek, created the series. It stars Holt McKellen (Mindhunter, The Iron Claw) and Maria Bello (BEF, A History of Violence). The cast also includes Melissa Benoist, Jack Verey, Rafael L. Silva, Humberly Gonzalez, Daniel Campbell, Brady Hepner, and guest star Topher Grace.
The Buckley family has been running the fishing world of Havenport for years. They have a boat, a restaurant, and a strong name in town. But when the father falls ill, everything starts to fall apart. His wife and son take over, but to keep things going, they make risky choices that could cost them all.
Based on true events, The Waterfront is a story of love, family, and the lengths people will go to protect themselves. It’s full of drama, mystery, and tough choices. As the situation escalates, the Buckley family must decide if the risk is worth taking to save their name.
If you liked Succession, Yellowstone, or Bloodline, you’ll love this show. It’s full of strong characters, tense moments, and plenty of heart. The Waterfront shows what happens when family, power, and survival come together.
K-Pop Demon Hunters
K-Pop Demon Hunters is a fast-paced, fun animated film that mixes music, action, and magic. It tells the story of three superstar idols - Rumi, Mira and Zoey. During the day, they perform as the K-pop girl group Huntrix. But off stage, they secretly fight demons that threaten the world.
With shiny weapons and wild dance moves, they battle dark forces led by the demon king Gwi-ma, voiced by Byung Hun Lee. Their goal is to create the Golden Honeymoon - a magical shield powered by the love of their fans that can stop the demons forever.
Behind the music and the fighting, the story is about the bond between idols and fans. It shows how strong that connection can be and how it helps them win battles both on and off stage.
The film is produced by Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, the team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It has bright colors, great music, and big action scenes. Most people love the fun style and songs, but some critics — especially in China — have expressed concerns about the film’s culture. Still, K-pop’s Demon Hunters is doing well around the world. Fans everywhere are enjoying the mix of music, magic, and girl power.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Know What You Did... is the fourth film in the series - and oddly enough, it has the same name as the first film. It picks up after 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
The story revolves around five new friends who cause a fatal accident and decide to hide what happened. A year later, the person who knows their secret begins to stalk them. At that point, Madeline Cline's character seeks help from two people who survived the previous films - Julie, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ray, played by Freddie Prinze Jr.
Superman
James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe (DCU) technically began last December with Creature Commando on Max, but Gunn's Superman is where the real reboot begins.
Not much is known about the story yet, but the film has a big cast and will kick off a full lineup of upcoming DCU shows and movies.
This film will be one of the top movies of 2025 - because let's be honest, it's Superman! He will also be joined by his loyal dog Krypto, who is sure to be a huge hit with fans and bring in massive merchandise sales on his own.
